Do I need an international drivers licence to drive in New Zealand?

A: You can legally drive in New Zealand if you have either a current driver's licence from your home country, or an International Driving Permit (IDP). The law here requires all drivers carry their licence or permit when driving. You will only be able to drive the same types of vehicles you are licensed to drive in your home country. Just make sure your driver's licence is current, and if not in English you should bring an English translation with you or obtain an IDP

Can I pull up and camp on the side of the road in a Rental Vehicle?

New Zealand has an extensive network of holiday parks in all major tourist centres and in most towns. We recommend all Qualmark rated holiday parks. They offer excellent recreational facilities, as well as resources to dispose of your waste water. They also have provision for you to plug the vehicle into electricity. Take advantage of the laundry, drying rooms and secure ski storage at most campgrounds and the staff are also a great source of local knowledge.

How long does the battery system last?

Campervans have two batteries one to run the engine and the other to operate functions in the living area (auxiliary battery) such as the fridge and lights. When plugged into power at a campground, the auxiliary battery will remain charged. If the vehicle is stationary for a long period of time and not plugged into a powered site the battery will only stay charged for approximately 12 to 14 hours. If you happen to flatten the auxiliary battery, you will still be able to start the engine and drive. Driving will recharge the auxiliary battery.

When you stay at a Caravan Park you simply plug yourself into the power supply, turn on your heater and warm up. The Campervan is easy to heat.

What do I do with my wet ski gear?

The Campgrounds that are located close to the ski fields are all set up for the winter traveller. They have drying rooms for all of your wet ski gear, heated bathrooms and some have lovely hot spa pools. Truly comfortable camping.
